thanks...
Thanks to my sweet wife who made my bday the best ever. She surprised me with a big surprise party at our house. We had many friends over who decorated the house to look "medieval" and Crystal got us a great cake that looked like an opened book. Really cool. Thanks for making this the best birthday ever.
apathy
After teaching humanities today, I am overwhelmed by the apathy of some students. Despite simply being there passively, their indifference almost smacks me in the face even when they are quiet and generally well-behaved. I struggle with the issue of class room discipline. I want to be open and engaging but sometimes it lends itself to disorder. It is frustrating. Today we opened a window to let in some much needed air and the sound of bagpipes wandered in. Who plays bagpipes at 2 p.m. on a Friday at Milligan? It was a tad distracting.
Even if teachers have a good schedule, teaching is very frustrating at times. It emotionally sucks you dry to teach in front of people who don't care.

birthdays and such...
Well, here I am on a new blogspot. Hope you all can find me if you are interested. I wanted a new place because I will be going to London this summer for almost 6 weeks to do dissertation research and I wanted to be able to keep people informed about what was going on in my life.
It was my bday yesterday and big thanks to Crystal, Andrew, Christy, Larry, Kristen and of course Finley and Karissee. Kristen has something planned for me tonight so I am excited. Not much to report at this point. Kristen is now 16 weeks along and we think it might be a boy. We have an ultrasound in about a week (we know an ultrasound tech who gives us free ones) so we will confirm it then. I am excited either way.
So thanks for reading about my exciting life.
