Spent most of the day at the British library pouring through manuscripts. I actually saw a few letters from Oliver Cromwell, and Edward VI and of course James I and Elizabeth I today. I feel like i am getting stuff done. I do need to go to the Public Records Office though and see some of their manuscripts and possibly go to Oxford library.
Tonight when the reading room closed, I perused the library's collections on display. They actually had the second oldest (3rd century) copy of part of the Book of Hebrews on papyrus and I saw the Codex Sinainaticus (a Greek copy of the BIble--very old, the Brits stole it from St. Catherine's monastery in Egypt--the monks are still mad) and a copy of the magna carta and the last letter Sir Thomas More wrote to Henry VIII. Impressive. I love history.
After I left I went to my favorite spot in London Trafalgar Square.

the church is called St. Martin in the fields. It was built after the Great Fire of 1666 which destroyed a lot of late medieval England.
I also went to St James Park and Green Park. Green Park is called Green Park because there are no flowers there. The story is that Charles II used to pick flowers for his girl friends there, the only problem, he was married. So his wife the Queen made sure that all the flowers were picked and to this day it is a Green Park.
this is a shot of a Tympanum from Westminster abbey. It shows the Romanesque worldview. Christ as the judge on top, apostles next, and then on down the line. It represents how Christians adapted a view of Christ as King from what they knew...they had Kings, nobles, peasants, etc.
This final shot was a huge block of stone that had the words of John chapter 1 on each side of it. It was outside of ST Martin in the Fields. This shot was the top of the stone. Pretty Awesome. So many people walked by it and didn't even notice it.
Finally I ate at KFC tonight. It was good. I am so beat. Living in London really wears you out.
Cheers.
Cheers.
